Progress Energy named to Dow Jones Sustainability indexes

RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 28 — Progress Energy has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI North America) and Dow Jones Sustainability United States Index (DJSI United States), which list companies that lead their industries in sustainability, a business approach for managing economic, environmental and social issues.

“Being included on the DJSI North America and DJSI United States indexes reflects that our company is doing many of the things necessary to balance the economic, environmental and social interests of our customers and shareholders and those who may be interested in investing in our company,” said Bob McGehee, chairman and CEO of Progress Energy. “We are proud to be recognized along with corporate leaders from across North America and other energy companies.”

The two indexes provide solid benchmarks for sustainability-driven North American and U.S. equity portfolios. In selecting the top performers in each business sector, DJSI reviewed companies on several general and industry- specific topics related to economic, environmental and social dimensions, including corporate governance, environmental policy, climate strategy, human capital development and labor practices.

Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide.
