Progress Energy to break ground on new headquarters

St. Petersburg, FL, Nov. 29, 2005 — Progress Energy Florida will break ground Nov. 30, 2005 for its new headquarters building, part of a mixed-use project in downtown St. Petersburg.

When complete at the end of 2006, the 16-story building will house 510 Progress Energy employees from other Pinellas County locations, in addition to retail space and parking.

The building will be the first new office complex in downtown St. Petersburg in 15 years. It will be owned by a subsidiary of SunTrust Bank and occupied by Progress Energy under a 40-year lease. The Progress Energy office complex is being developed by Carter & Associates of Atlanta, and designed by Cooper Carry of Atlanta and St. Petersburg’s Wannemacher Russell.
