PSE&G powered by wireless solution from Vertex Interactive

FAIRFIELD, N.J., March 21, 2002 — Vertex Interactive Inc., a provider of supply chain execution and order fulfillment technologies, reported that the successful implementation of SAPConsole at PSE&G, one of the largest combined electric and gas utility companies in the United States.

As part of the Vertex SAP Practice offering, Vertex is providing PSE&G with a single-source solution including mobile data collection for SAP R/3. Vertex implemented SAPConsole in conjunction with ABAP-based application transactions that enable the emulation of SAP GUI on Intermec radio frequency mobile devices allowing PSE&G users the ability to seamlessly transmit real time critical data from their existing SAP R/3 system to/from their radio frequency (RF) devices.

In addition, Vertex is providing PSE&G with consulting services, Intermec mobile radio frequency devices, customized pre-printed labeling, integration, and overall support.

PSE&G’s distribution facility, located in Somerset NJ, stocks material required for the construction and repair of critical electric distribution infrastructure. This facility was designed as both a local storeroom and central warehouse for job-related supplies. The enhancement to the system translates into less downtime by off-site technicians and greater efficiencies in PSE&G inbound and outbound warehousing operations.

Previous to Vertex’s solution, PSE&G performed manual, time-consuming data entry of inventory status information. As a result of the SAP R/3 mobile data collection solution from Vertex, PSE&G has improved the operational processes within the warehouse operation, and the real-time integration to their paper based process in SAP R/3 system. According to Brian Bajor, Materials Control/Logistics Manager for PSE&G, “We have already seen improvements in inventory accuracy and overall business process improvement.”

In addition to the Vertex proven implementation track record of SAP R/3 data collection, Vertex’ consulting expertise, process methodology and programming practices were a major factor in the PSE&G decision.

“The Vertex SAP R/3 Practice provides companies with ABAP-based transactions designed to meet their specific operating requirements,” stated Eric Limpert, Director of Operations — SAP Practice, Vertex Interactive. “Our forte is our ability to provide consulting expertise and knowledge transfer to our customers by assisting them in the configuration and development of their business processes, further enhancing their return on investment,” stated Limpert.
