Reported reductions of greenhouse gas emissions tripled between 1994 and 1999

The reported reduction of 226 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent was three times the amount reported in 1994, the first year of the Voluntary Reporting of Greenhouse Gases Program.

Jan. 18, 2001–The U.S. Energy Department Thursday rushed out energy efficiency standards for residential central air conditioners and heat pumps, clothes washers, and water heaters, and commercial heating and cooling equipment.
