Richard Drouin named “Canadian Energy Person of the Year”

Richard Drouin, Chairman of NERC’s independent Board of Trustees, was named Canadian Energy Person of the Year by the Energy Council of Canada. This annual award serves to publicly applaud the contributions of outstanding members of Canada’s energy industries.

“NERC is proud and pleased that Richard’s considerable contributions to the electric industry are being recognized,” said Michehl R. Gent, NERC President and Chief Executive Officer. “His visionary leadership as the Chairman of NERC exemplifies his commitment both to our organization and to the industry,” he added.

Richard Drouin is currently Chairman of Abitibi-Consolidated, the largest newsprint manufacturer in the world. He is also a counsel in Canada’s largest law firm, McCarthy Tetrault. Earlier, he was the Chairman and CEO of Hydro-Quebec, and was the co-chair of NERC’s Electric Reliability Panel.
