S&C introduces new product for protecting overhead lateral circuits: DistribuTECH update

Tampa, FL, Feb. 10, 2006 — S&C introduces TripSaver Dropout Recloser, a new product for protecting overhead lateral circuits. Used in lieu of fuse cutouts, it boasts the ability to improve system reliability by eliminating the permanent outages caused when lateral fuses respond to temporary faults.

This self-powered, electronically controlled vacuum recloser, offered in system voltage class ratings of 15.5 and 27 kV, is available for installation in new or existing cutout mountings. A two-insulator branch-feeder style mounting is also available for new installations. TripSaver requires no programming or batteries for back-up control power.

TripSaver features an open-close-open-dropout operating sequence with a 5-second reclosing time interval. The interrupter resets five seconds after dropout, ready for the next operation.
