Siemens Acquires PowerGen’s U.K. Metering Business and Datum Solutions

Siemens Metering Limited recently announced it has acquired the metering business of East Midlands Electricity-part of the PowerGen group of companies. The acquisition has a total value of £25 million. Siemens has undertaken a strategy of purchase and integration in order to consolidate its position as the United Kingdom’s leading metering services provider. The company also announced the takeover of Datum Solutions-formerly the metering and data management business of the U.K.’s monopoly transmission company, the National Grid Co. Datum Solutions was established in 1993 and the National Grid Co. built the operation up into a data collection business with a turnover of £5 million. Datum employs 70 people at its offices in Nottingham and Dartford, who will become part of Siemens’ staff of 1,200 over the coming months. With the acquisition of Datum, PowerGen’s metering operations, and the metering business of TXU Europe in May 2000, the company is now one of the largest metering and data aggregation service providers in the United Kingdom.
