Siemens showcases digital solutions at POWER-GEN International

At POWER-GEN International this week, Siemens will showcase its new asset performance management technology and software for power plants which it launched in collaboration with Bentley Systems.

The APM solution for power plants is hosted on Siemens’ cloud-based open IoT operating system, Mindsphere, and will combine Bentley’s asset performance software capabilities with Siemens’ complementary technology and service expertise to empower plant owners to embrace digitalization, with the aim of improving maintenance operation and planning.

The APM system is one of many solutions that Siemens will spotlight at the event that kicks off tomorrow in Orlando. The company’s experts will discuss how their technology is “shaping the future of the energy industry with power generation equipment and services that provide significant efficiency gains through new engines and turbines, prescriptive maintenance, remote monitoring, and cybersecurity capabilities”.

The technologies on show will include upgrades to control systems, compressed air energy storage solutions, plus the company’s range of gas engines for power generation, cogeneration, trigeneration, waste-to-energy, industrial buildings and other applications.

Siemens says the compressed air grid-scale storage solution provides “the operating flexibility and long duration storage needed to balance intermittent renewable power and real-time grid demand. The solution enables renewable transmission optimization with fast start-up, rapid ramp rates, 90 per cent generation turndown and 30 per cent load absorption turndown. CAES can charge and discharge simultaneously and offers hydrogen fuel burn capability based on the proven SGT-800 combustion system.”
