SmartSynch expands partnership with Elster Electricity

JACKSON, Miss., September 1, 2005 — SmartSynch, which supplies wireless technology for the energy industry, has established a distribution and integration partnership with Elster Electricity, a manufacturer of advanced metering devices.

Under the agreement, Elster will integrate and sell the SmartSynch A3 ALPHA SmartMeter directly to utilities. The SmartSynch A3 ALPHA SmartMeter was first introduced in 2002, with over 20,000 units sold to date.

“The expansion of our relationship will provide further benefit to our mutual customers through greater purchasing options and faster order fulfillment for large deployments,” said Stephen Johnston, SmartSynch CEO.

“Since there is not one ubiquitous communication network to meet all needs, our offerings with SmartSynch provide excellent solutions to help address our customers’ needs more completely,” said Sharon Allan, Elster’s chief knowledge officer.

SmartSynch, based in Jackson, Miss., provides wireless interval smart meters throughout North America and has sold almost 85,000 at 35 major utilities. SmartSynch’s core product, the SmartMeter System, facilitates real-time acquisition of critical usage and rate data from electricity meters via public wireless networks and the Internet. During the last 5 years, SmartSynch has deployed more interval meters with embedded Wide Area Network (WAN) technology than all other companies combined with over 25,000 MW and over $9 billion of annual revenue serviced by SmartSynch technology.
