Southern Union on Multimedia Training
Southern Union Co., the 14th largest gas distribution company in the United States, developed more than 55 training courses to facilitate employee cross-training, improve customer service and reduce classroom training costs. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Southern Union formed a subsidiary company, ENERGY WorX Inc., to distribute interactive computer-based training systems. ENERGY WorX is marketing courses in gas distribution and transmission and is developing other courses and services. According to Dick Hornback, ENERGY WorX executive vice president, the company is entering into an agreement to offer training courses to the 125 company members. Hornback adds, “We have prepackaged everything a gas company could want in terms of courses, documentation and installation services.”
Southern Union is also installing telecommunications equipment provided by GTE Supply for Southern Union`s call center located in El Paso, Texas. Under terms of the agreement, GTE will provide a NORTEL Meridian 61 PBX system along with five adapter modules in addition to features such as voice mail, automatic call distribution and a call reporting system. GTE will continue to support the Contigo call center for Southern Union beyond the installation, providing expansion modules and service for the current system.
