Tampa Electric gauges customer reaction to new AMR units

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 26, 2000 – In preparation for an AMR effort next March, Tampa Electric Co.’s test deployment revealed some valuable insights into how customers would react to the switch to phone-based AMR units, according to President John Ramil. Based on this information, the company will craft a strategy that takes the customers’ feelings into account.

Southern California Edison Co. (SCE), a unit of Edison International, said May through August revenues from customers were insufficient to cover the cost of providing service, a condition that is expected to prevail at least through September. As a result, the big California utility said it has used virtually all of its authorized capacity for short-term borrowing.
