Telvent captures fifth consecutive “Top 100” award in Canada

CALGARY, Canada, Nov. 1, 2004 — For the fifth year in a row, Telvent has been chosen as one of Canada’s top ranked employers. What made this year’s achievement more significant yet was the record number of companies – over 52,000 – that participated in the competition.

Tony Meehan, president of Mediacorp Canada Inc, which publishes the annual Top 100 list, attributes much of the success of the award-winning companies to their pursuit of continuous improvement. “Each year, we look forward to handing out laurels to employers who distinguish themselves by creating wonderful places to work,” he says. “These employers continue to improve their working conditions and benefits, raising the bar for others in their industry.”

According to Telvent’s Chairman, Manuel Sàƒ¡nchez Ortega, there has to be synergy between employees and employer in order to achieve overall success. “We are a strong, growth-oriented company and an industry leader, and that requires a team of highly motivated employees who share those same objectives,” he says. “Certainly our company provides an excellent working environment but what makes Telvent a true success story is our employees’ commitment to being part of this award-winning team. This type of enthusiasm and dedication is also an important part of why we are being recognized for the fifth year in a row as one of Canada’s Top 100 employers.”

“The common thread that runs through all the (Top 100) finalists is that each is a leader in its industry,” says Richard Yerema, Canada’s best-selling career author, and editor of the annual publication, Canada’s Top 100 Employers. “They also have to have a reputation for attracting and retaining quality employees through interesting work, exceptional employee benefits, favorable working conditions and enticing perks. What’s also interesting is that the evidence is increasingly clear that employers of choice outperform their industry peers in a wide variety of sectors. It seems that being a good employer isn’t just good for employees – it’s also great for business.”

This year’s competition included a record number of participants – more than 52,000 companies. Out of that initial group, 6000 firms were asked to complete a comprehensive application process targeted at seven key areas: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; and (7) Training & Skills Development. Based on an exhaustive analysis of that data, Telvent was successful once again, in being acknowledged as one of Canada’s Top 100 employers.
