FreeWave’s FGR2-PE wireless communications solution is ideal for smart grid, electric power and renewable energy applications and is well-suited for similar SCADA applications in other vertical markets. The future-proof combination of two serial ports and two switched Ethernet ports offers customers the ability to transition from serial to Ethernet data communication without having to replace their wireless communication hardware down the road. Users can operate both serial and Ethernet communication independently and simultaneously on the same platform. The deployment flexibility of the FGR2-PE solution also reduces the need for additional hardware.

Relay Test System
Megger’s MPRT8445 automatic protection relay test system combines reduced weight, increased output power and current and IEC 61850 test capabilities with open communications architecture. It can be used with third-party software and Megger’s AVTS software. Capable of testing electromechanical, solid-state and microprocessor-based protective relays, the MPRT8445 is available as a three-module version that can provide up to six current channels or a four-module version to provide up to eight current channels. Its test sets use Megger’s newest constant power output voltage and current modules. The modules can continuously deliver up to 30 A at 200 VA per phase or up to 45 A at 300 VA with a 1.5-second duty cycle. The MPRT8445 can be used with a personal computer and is suitable software for the full range of manual and automatic testing.
Cloud Computing Solution
PowerOneData International (P1DI) announces GENII meter data management software. When combined with P1DI’s smart meter technology, GENII, a cloud computing-based, meter-to-mouse application, provides electric utilities with an automated metering infrastructure solution. GENII interfaces with any meter. Features include: software-driven, prepaid and postpaid billing, instant data acquisition, plug-and-play top-down and bottom-up network-building capabilities, bidirectional communication and remote connect and disconnect. It offers improved revenue generation through programs such as critical peak pricing, time of use, peak-time rebate and other tariff rate programs.
Energy Management Mobile App
EnerNOC Inc., a provider of energy management applications for the smart grid, has released EnerNOC mobile app, an app that provides on-the-go access to real-time energy data for EnerNOC’s 5,300 customers. EnerNOC’s platform collects real-time energy data from thousands of commercial, institutional and industrial sites, integrates it with external data feeds such as market and weather data, and presents users with intuitive dashboards, tools and reports to become better energy managers. Energy users who utilize DemandSMART to participate in demand response or EfficiencySMART for continuous energy efficiency will now be able manage demand response dispatch performance on the go, monitor energy use trends, and identify opportunities for greater efficiency.
Display Cube, Control Room Solution
Christie, a control room technology solutions provider, is offering more choice for mission-critical monitoring of assets, activities and infrastructure with the Christie Entero LED 70-inch video wall display cube and TVC-1700 video wall processor. The Entero LED 70-inch HD rear projection system, along with the new Christie video wall processorn, offers users exceptional quality, versatility and low maintenance. The system’s zero-maintenance design provides reliability and long life. It also features Christie ArrayLOC automatic brightness and color-balancing technology that monitors and adjusts color and brightness levels across the video wall in real time. This significantly reduces downtime due to recalibration requirements typically needed with other systems and makes the system scalable from small to large installations. The Christie TVC-1700 is designed to meet increasingly complex and diverse control room environments. Based on Windows 7 and running on 64 bit OS architecture, it supports single- and dual-link DVI and video inputs.

Reduce Outages, Improve Reliability
Greenjacket, a solution for electrical cover-up on substations in both the electrical utility and industrial sectors of the marketplace, has been named AltaLink’s preferred solution for reducing substation wildlife contacts and improving overall transmission system reliability. AltaLink credits Greenjacket for its 95 percent reduction in bird and other wildlife outages since the covers have been installed in 2006. Greenjacket involves a technology that allows the company to customize covers for a complete fit over all risk points.
Connect With Smart Grid Components
Fluidmesh’s FluidMAX is a wireless solution designed to be fully compliant and integrated with other wired or wireless transmission technologies to create a fully integrated, IP-based, intelligent network. FluidMax can be adopted as a network backhaul to interconnect with the different components of the smart grid, such as substations, transformers, synchrophasors and distributed generators, and for home-area network applications such as metering data collection. Fluidmesh is a wireless vendor capable of providing a one-box wireless system that includes point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and mesh architectures operating at 900 megahertz in nonline-of-sight scenarios.
Pavement Wheeled Excavator
Weighing 51,216 pounds, the XL 5300 III by Gradall Industries is the largest model in the Gradall collection of excavators with wheeled undercarriages designed for high-productivity jobs on every terrain. The XL 5300 III has a maximum reach of 33 feet, 10 inches (10.3 m) at grade and a maximum dig depth of 24 feet, 7 inches (7.5 m). Its rated bucket breakout force is 25,405 pounds, and the rated boom force is 24,941 pounds. Sure-footed on and off pavement, the rubber tire undercarriage will not damage concrete or asphalt surfaces while providing a stable work platform. The telescoping, full-tilting boom can precisely position buckets, hammers, grapples, shears and other attachments without losing power.
