Trican well service joins OFS Portal to expand into eCommerce

HOUSTON, June 9, 2005 — Trican Well Service, Ltd., one of the largest well service companies operating in Canada, announced it has joined OFS Portal, LLC, a worldwide eCommerce consortium of upstream oil and gas suppliers. Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Trican provides a comprehensive array of specialized products, equipment and services for the exploration and development of oil and gas reserves.

OFS Portal, a Houston company, is a member-based group of global upstream oil and gas suppliers and service providers who deliver cost-effective, standardized eCommerce solutions for industry buyers and sellers. Trican will now have the ability to use OFS Portal’s established channels for publishing and distributing electronic catalogs to reach a broad community of oil companies via open and non-proprietary electronic data standards.

“Our decision to join OFS Portal was driven in large part by their commitment to reducing costs by promoting uniform transaction structures, which will ultimately benefit not just our company but the entire upstream oil and gas industry,” said Michael Kelly, Vice President and CFO. “This commitment to reduce costs, coupled with strong protections for the security and confidentiality of our electronic data, gives us the confidence to invest in eCommerce initiatives with our customers. Those initiatives are designed to make our industry more efficient and result in future savings to the consumer.”

OFS Portal promotes API’s PIDX standards for product classification and document exchange. These standards allow oil companies and their many trading partners to efficiently communicate electronically and engage in eCommerce through shared, open standards. OFS Portal’s community includes more than 20 of the largest upstream oil and gas companies and the electronic networks each has selected to handle their data.

“OFS Portal provides our members with one of the most cost-effective approaches to meet their customers’ requirements for eCommerce while providing a platform that allows each OFS Portal member to preserve product differentiation and ownership of intellectual property,” said OFS Portal CEO William Le Sage. “Working with Trican, it is clear they are committed to eCommerce and satisfying their customers’ requests for electronic data, but want to ensure their investment in eCommerce today is in standards and processes that will bring real value tomorrow. Joining a community committed to API PIDX standards provides them that opportunity and links them to the largest global buyers in the industry.

“Trican brings geographical diversity and an expanded product and customer line-up to our roster of forward-looking members of the upstream oil and gas community who recognize the inherent value in exchanging electronic data via open and neutral standards,” added Le Sage.
