ATLANTA, JUNE 1, 2006 — Troutman Sanders LLP has captured the highest ranking among U.S. law firms for legal services to the American utility industry, according to the 2006 survey by BTI Consulting Group, a national authority on law firm management and strategy.
Troutman Sanders, which celebrates its 109th anniversary this year, was voted to the top power ranking position by in-house utility lawyers and executives surveyed in BTI’s annual benchmarking report. They based their ratings on six criteria, including primary relationships between the law firms and their clients, “go-to” status, the industry’s preference for enlisting specialized firms with problem-solving capabilities, and general client recommendations.
In official terms, Troutman Sanders was designated Predominant Primary Law Firm with Utility Companies in the 2006 BTI Power Rankings: The BTI Client Relationship Scorecard for Law Firms. Results were compiled through interviews of 376 corporate counsel, financial services firms, companies represented in the Fortune 1000 and privately held corporations.
Troutman Sanders is in its eighth decade of serving the utilities industry.
“The BTI Power Rankings gauge the market position of law firms,” said Marcie L. Borgal, principal, The BTI Consulting Group. “We conduct the only continuous benchmarking market study in the legal services industry based on more than 1,000 independent interviews with general counsel and key decision makers that hire law firms.”
