UTC Aids in Merger Preparation

UTC, the Telecommunications Association, recently released its newest publication, “Merging Telecom Departments.” The publication explores how telecom managers can best prepare themselves and position their department to play an integral role in organizational restructuring or a merger. “In these competitive times, we view this as an extremely timely and informative piece,” said Coleman Kane, UTC`s member services director.

The publication explains three basic things that should top the telecom managers “to do” list: take steps to ensure your own survival as a real asset to the new organization; take care of your people, particularly those whose qualities you don`t want to lose; and maintain the visibility and critical nature of the telecom operations. Other issues addressed include determining optimum staff size, union considerations, setting up communications links between merger partners, and conducting an inventory of both sets of telecom assets and choosing the best of what you`ve got.
