Wisconsin Public Service Resources, American Transmission Co., and Calpine Power Services Join Fast-Growing Midwest ISO

Joining the Midwest ISO as transmission owner members are Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) Resources Corp. of Green Bay, WI, and American Transmission Co., LLC of Milwaukee. Independent Power Producer Calpine Corp. of San Jose, CA, joined as a non-transmission owner member, bringing to 23 the number of non-transmission owners who have joined the MISO.

MINNEAPOLIS—Open Access Technology International Inc. (OATI) has processed more than one million energy transaction tags as of early July for its approximately 350 customer organizations in the energy industry. Energy transaction tags are a key element in the process to assure that North American energy market participants charged with the delivery of electric energy to consumers meet the reliability requirements established by the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC).

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—American Superconductor and Wisconsin Public Service Corp. have announced the successful operation of the world’s first commercial superconductor-based solution for power grid reliability. The solution consists of multiple, Distributed Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (D-SMES) units deployed at electrical substations in WPS’ 200-mile Northern Transmission Loop. This D-SMES system will increase power reliability and capacity throughout the Northern Loop.
