Without rains, government says Brazil faces summer blackouts

RIO de JANEIRO, Apr. 2, 2001—Brazil’s Mines and Energy Minister Jose Jorge Vasconcelos warned unless there are heavy rains between now and June, the country will suffer a severe electricity shortage.

March 30, 2001—The North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) changed its governance to a new, ten-member independent Board of Trustees, replacing a 47-member Board, which comprised both stakeholders and independent members.
