Xcel Energy expanding PassPort system to include e-commerce capability

ATLANTA, Ga., Jan. 15, 2002 — Xcel Energy Inc., a provider of electricity and natural gas energy, is expanding its existing implementation of Indus software with the addition of the Indus International Inc.’s e-commerce solution, IndusBuyDemand.

The nation’s fourth largest utility company serving both electricity and natural gas customers, Xcel Energy will integrate IndusBuyDemand into its existing PassPort? solution, which is utilized in the company’s supply chain, accounts payable and work management systems.

IndusBuyDemand will add e-procurement capabilities to Xcel Energy’s Passport system. The content management and catalog search capabilities in IndusBuyDemand–a result of the recent Indus alliance with i2 Technologies, Inc. –will help Xcel Energy reduce cycle times by increasing the company’s transactional efficiency.

“We required an e-Commerce solution that fully integrates to the installed PassPort EAM solution,” said Susan Widdel, Xcel Energy’s vice president supply chain and property services. “We chose the IndusBuyDemand solution because it is already integrated to PassPort and provides us with the functionality necessary to implement our strategy.”

“Indus understands the demanding environment in which utilities like Xcel Energy work, constantly striving to streamline operations– all while meeting an enormous demand for power,” explained Bob Hofer, vice president of product strategy for Indus International.

“That’s why we’ve developed tools like IndusBuyDemand that leverage the unparalleled capabilities of core products like Passport with value-added features such as e-procurement. Not only do they extend the scalability of our core products; they’re modular so that customers like Xcel Energy get just the features they need to meet their demanding business requirements.”

IndusBuyDemand will facilitate the purchase of items such as maintenance, repair and operational items, while integrating with the PassPort supply chain. Using the Xcel Energy business process workflow implemented via PassPort, Xcel Energy personnel will be able to access internal inventories or make electronic purchases from suppliers while ensuring that the purchase requirements are met.

With IndusBuyDemand, the actual purchase of the item can take place electronically via XML document transmission. In addition, the e-Commerce catalog functionality will provide extensive capabilities in the use and management of supplier catalog content.

“We are excited to see Xcel’s interest in IndusBuyDemand, including the e-Commerce catalog capability powered by i2’s Discovery Knowledge Manager,” said i2 Vice President, Energy Sector, Deborah MacLean-Galloway.

“To be chosen by one of the nation’s utilities–just six short months after signing an alliance with Indus International–confirms the value delivered by our combined solutions. Furthermore, it builds additional momentum for the alliance as we continue working together to promote our joint solution into an expanding marketplace.”
