IABC Cleveland names Communicator of the Year

Cleveland, May 23, 2012 — Tony Alexander, president and CEO of Akron-based FirstEnergy Corp., has been named Communicator of the Year by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Cleveland chapter.

IABC Cleveland is honoring Alexander for the importance he places on employee, investor, customer and community communications. Under Alexander’s leadership, FirstEnergy completed its most recent merger in 2011, making FirstEnergy one of the largest electric systems in the nation and one of the three largest companies in Northeast Ohio.

Alexander began his career in 1972 in the tax department of Ohio Edison. He joined Ohio Edison’s legal department as an attorney in 1976 and held the following positions before becoming president and chief executive officer in 2004: senior attorney, associate general counsel, elected vice president, general counsel, senior vice president, executive vice president and COO.
