Hurricane Gilbert (1988) $10.2 billion

Gilbert was the most intense tropical cyclone to ever strike Mexico, and at one point measured 588 miles across. For 9 days, the storm devastated the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, killing 433 people. The storm went on to break up in the Midwest of America, but not before spawning 29 tornadoes in Texas.
