Burbank Water & Power pursues automatic dispatch system with SAIC

Washington, D.C., July 9, 2012 — To take advantage of new demand management capabilities and to incorporate and integrate functionality into real-time utility operations, electric utilities need a new operational system.

For this reason, Burbank Water & Power is pursing the development and implementation of an integrated automatic dispatch system with the help of SAIC. Completion of the system is scheduled for the first quarter of 2013.

IADS is a demand- and supply-side energy management system that optimizes the mix of energy generation and distributed energy resources. This economic optimization is developed while simultaneously considering operational reliability and system security matters.

The system’s core functionality consists of aggregating, baselining and trending distributed energy resources and end use customer load characteristics in ways that systematically provide the functionality of the system.
