Landis+Gyr signs advanced metering contract with SMUD

New York, July 16, 2009 – Landis+Gyr, a smart grid solutions firm, has a contract with Sacramento Municipal Utility District to supply 620,000 smart meters for use in SMUD’s advanced metering infrastructure.

Under the agreement, SMUD plans to deploy the company’s Focus family of smart meters for residential, industrial and commercial customers throughout their service area.

Smart metering solutions provide a two-way flow of data between customer meters and utility back-end systems. With this data flow, utilities will be able to offer customers an array of new pricing, demand response and energy automation.

Customers will benefit from more information, expanded choices, simpler and smarter management of their energy as well as the potential to reduce the environmental impact of their energy use.

Landis+Gyr’s electric meter contract is part of SMUD’s AMI rollout that recently received regulatory approval. The company will work on this project with partner Silver Spring Networks, provider of the communications solution.
