Masers Energy, Silver Spring Networks team on infrastructure in Malaysia

Silver Spring Networks Inc., a networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks, announced it has entered into an agreement with Masers Energy Malaysia, a unit of Masers Energy Inc. headquartered in San Jose, California and London, to help bring smart infrastructure benefits to Malaysia.

Under the agreement, Silver Spring Networks will coordinate smart infrastructure technology, planning and services for Masers’ Smart Grid City Melaka and Special Economic Zone Melaka projects. Anticipated to begin later this year, the initial stage of an expected multi-phase project will include Silver Spring’s IPv6 networking platform deployed as a canopy network for advanced metering, distribution automation, and smart grid consumer empowerment initiatives.

The Masers Energy Smart Grid City and Green Special Economic Zone are a public-private plan to transform the Melaka region from an agricultural and small-industry zone into a smart grid city in Asia.

Designed to bring the economic and societal benefits of smart infrastructure to Malaysia, the plan leverages the latest smart city technologies and innovations to create a “Green Corridor” in Melaka, helping it become one of the world’s leading green and low-carbon centers.

Silver Spring provides a IPv6-based network that establishes a communications foundation for a city’s assets regardless of distribution topology. Silver Spring is expanding the functionality of its smart infrastructure platform to support Smart City solutions such as intelligent street lighting, traffic signal control and electric vehicle charging, among others.
