Mitsubishi picks Itron for Japanese smart meter rollout

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. will deploy Itron’s smart grid software for a smart metering project with Chubu Electric Power Co., the third largest electric utility in Japan.

Itron‘s smart grid software will provide a critical function within the overall solution, securely collecting high-volumes of data to empower consumers to conserve energy and improve back-end utility processes.

Itron’s OpenWay Collection Engine software will be installed at Chubu Electric to securely collect and relay a high-volume of data from field routers and about 10 million smart meters and deliver that data to the utility’s meter data management system. Itron’s collection engine will facilitate customer conservation efforts in Japan.
