NEC Energy partners with Eos Energy Storage on energy storage

NEC Energy Solutions, a unit of NEC Corp., entered into an agreement with Eos Energy Storage to develop energy storage solutions based on Eos’s Znyth zinc hybrid cathode battery chemistry and its Aurora DC battery system.

NEC ES will collaborate with Eos to provide a power grid storage solution, which includes DC battery systems, power conversion systems, controls hardware, the NEC ES AEROS controls software suite as well as service and maintenance packages.

The GSS can also be rapidly deployed and put into commercial operation within six weeks of equipment delivery on-site.

Eos’s Aurora DC battery system is optimized for four hours of continuous discharge and can be used for peak shaving, solar and wind energy time-shifting or transmission and distribution (T&D) grid support.

The collaboration expands NEC ES energy storage technology offerings and allows the company to supply an Eos-enabled GSS, supporting reliable, secure, efficient and sustainable electricity grid infrastructure.

The companies are able to quote turnkey systems today with multi MW-scale volume available in 2016 as Eos gears up for mass production.
