Sugar Land, Texas, April 28, 2010 – Automation technology provider ABB received an order from Oklahoma Gas and Electric for its ABB Network Manager Distribution Management System.
OG&E, a recipient of a $130 million U.S. Department of Energy Recovery Act grant, plans to deploy Network Manager DMS as part of its Positive Energy Smart Grid program to increase its distribution system reliability and efficiency and improve customer service. Full deployment is pending Oklahoma Corporation Commission approval of cost recovery.
OG&E will deploy ABB’s Network Manager in its Oklahoma City operations control center to monitor, manage and optimize the distribution network. The deployment will provide a modern integrated platform for smart grid automation and optimization applications.
“An advanced control center solution is a key part of our program,” said Ken Grant, managing director of OG&E’s smart grid program. “We selected the ABB Network Manager to help us achieve the part of our smart grid vision which includes the integration of advanced metering, automation, communications and information technologies on our distribution system.”
ABB Network Manager DMS is an operations management system designed to help utilities reduce operating and maintenance costs while enhancing customer service.
It provides advanced network modeling and management, integrated switching and tagging, trouble call and outage management, crew management, and historical archiving and reporting. Network Manager DMS also offers integrated SCADA and advanced applications, such as fault location, unbalanced load flow, Volt/Var optimization and simulation mode, as well as interfaces to other information systems that permit organizations to leverage time-critical data across the enterprise.
OG&E, which serves more than 777,000 customers in a service territory spanning 30,000 square miles in Oklahoma and western Arkansas, is a subsidiary of Oklahoma City-based OGE Energy Corp., which also is the parent company of Enogex LLC, a midstream natural gas pipeline business with principal operations in Oklahoma.
