Tantalus to install smart grid communications at Mohegan Sun Casino

The Mohegan Tribal Utility Authority, which provides electric power service to the Mohegan Sun Casino, chose Tantalus to provide smart grid communications to one of the largest casinos in the U.S.

The Mohegan Sun uses more than 100 General Electric (GE) polyphase meters at its casino, hotel and retail stores. These properties will be networked onto the Tantalus Utility Network (TUNet) for real-time meter reading.

The Mohegan Sun is a 3.1 million square foot facility with three separate casinos, 130,000 square feet of commercial space, a 10,000-seat arena, 100,000 square feet of meeting a retail space and a 1,200-room hotel tower.

The casino’s electricity load requirement can top 25 MW. Mohegan will use TUNet for meter reading automation and administration with the ability to incorporate future advanced energy management applications.
