RWE Schott Solar’s dealer program foundation for New Jersey PV market development grant


Rocklin, CA, Sept. 17, 2003 — RWE SCHOTT Solar, Inc. (RSS), a manufacturer and distributor of high-quality solar modules and systems, announced that its plan to develop a network of dealers in New Jersey served as the basis for a proposal to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) Office of Clean Energy’s (OCE) new REED (Renewable Energy and Economic Development) Program.

The proposal, which was accepted and awarded a grant of $270,354, reflects RSS’s commitment to the New Jersey market and the state’s commitment to building, maintaining and servicing a long-term renewable energy program. Implementing the proposal will be a powerful team that includes RSS, Madison Energy Consultants, Direct Global Power and other private and public participants.

The grant awarded by the BPU will help to defray the costs associated with building awareness of New Jersey’s renewable energy programs among consumers, and will support building and training a dealer infrastructure to sell, service, and install RSS solar electric power systems in New Jersey.

The dealership development program will target energy services companies such as Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) businesses and electrical contractors, as well as oil and gas energy concerns that could benefit by adding photovoltaics (PV) to their operations. These programs will ultimately create an economic engine for renewable energy business in the state while furthering New Jersey’s energy independence and environmental goals.

About the Project Team

Madison Energy Consultants (MEC), a New Jersey-based business specializing in the development of distributed and renewable energy market approaches, submitted the proposal on behalf of the project team and will be managing the overall project. MEC will be working with RSS and other proposal partners as they build a marketing and business development program designed to educate consumers about photovoltaics while also building a qualified sales, installation and services infrastructure. A series of advertisements will be developed to reach out to potential customers.

Direct Global Power, the program developer, will manage the dealer network under contract to RSS. The infrastructure development portion of the program will target energy service companies that have technically capable staff, selling experience and established customer bases consistent with the PV product to be offered.
