FPL Group Inc. named Lewis Hay III president of its independent power generation subsidiary, FPL Energy LLC. Hay joined FPL Group in August and was serving as chief financial officer. He succeeds Michael Yackira who resigned his post to pursue other business interests. Prior to joining FPL Group, Hay served as chief financial officer of U.S. Foodservice, a $6 billion food service distribution company.

FPL switches off Northeast power marketing efforts

FPL Group Inc. (FPL) recently found another supplier for its unregulated power and natural gas customers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, completing the company`s withdrawal from unregulated retail marketing, a FPL spokesman said. The changes were announced by PP&L Resources Inc. (PPL) which said its retail marketing arm, PP&L EnergyPlus Co., has agreed to serve the customers of FPL Energy Services in the two states. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

FPL exits retail marketing:

PP&L EnergyPlus Co. agreed recently to serve the unregulated power and natural gas customers of FPL Energy Services in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, marking FPL Group`s exit from the unregulated retail marketing business. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Late last year, FPL announced plans to discontinue its unregulated retail marketing operations.

FPL selects Black & Veatch for repowering project:

Florida Power & Light Co. selected Black & Veatch to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for the 2,018 MW Sanford Repowering Project, DeBary, Fla. The plant will consist of eight 165 MW combustion turbines provided by General Electric, eight heat recovery steam generators provided by Foster Wheeler, two existing condensing steam turbines, and balance-of-plant equipment, both new and existing.
