Eaton, CA Technologies to deliver infrastructure management for data centers

Industrial manufacturer Eaton and CA Technologies will deliver a data center monitoring, management and control solution in North America. The turnkey solution will combine Eaton power management hardware and software with CA Technologies Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) technology.

The combined solution will also enable managed service providers to grow their businesses by providing high-value DCIM-as-a-service offerings that include monitoring and maintenance of customers’ critical infrastructure and business systems.

DCIM provides organizations with greater insight into critical data center infrastructure, across both facilities and IT systems. Often, the challenge is that an appropriate technical architecture is required to support the integrations needed to implement DCIM.

The Eaton and CA Technologies collaboration provides integration between CA’s DCIM technology and select Eaton power management hardware, including uninterruptible power systems (UPSs) and power distribution units (PDUs). As a result, CA DCIM can collect, analyze and report on metrics such as temperature, humidity, power by phase, current by phase and power factor.

Customers can use CA DCIM to create intelligent alerts based on the data collected to gain insight into environmental and power issues before they have an opportunity to threaten IT infrastructures. Customers can also accurately calculate total PDU power usage for Eaton equipment or other device groups.
