EPRI buys property in Charlotte to expand research operations

Palo Alto, Calif., October 3, 2011 — The Electric Power Research Institute purchased 108,000 square feet of office and lab space on 24 acres adjacent to its research facility at University Research Park in Charlotte, N.C. With this addition, EPRI will own 258,000 square feet of office and research facilities on 45 acres.

EPRI purchased the facility from Paragon Media LLC, with plans to expand its laboratory space by 15,000 square feet and provide space for local workforce growth over the next five years.

In addition to laboratories, the newly acquired building will also provide conference and meeting space to support EPRI’s collaborative research and development programs.

EPRI employs a diverse workforce of professionals on its University Research Park campus who conduct and manage comprehensive research and development programs in electric transmission, nuclear and fossil power generation.

EPRI has operated its research and testing facility in University Research Park since 1980. The Palo Alto-based institute also operates laboratory facilities in Knoxville, Tenn., where it conducts research on power delivery and end-use technologies, and in Lenox, Mass., where research at its high-voltage lab focuses on power transmission technology and systems.
