FirstEnergy unit Penelec to consolidate operations

Reading, Pa., May 22, 2012 – FirstEnergy Corp. unit Pennsylvania Electric Co. will consolidate its service operations to increase efficiency and to enhance response times in the utility’s Altoona, Ebensburg, Bedford and Huntingdon areas. The consolidation is expected to be completed this fall.
Central to the new configuration will be the Altoona Service Center, where employees will be relocated from Penelec facilities slated to close in Ebensburg, Bedford, and Huntingdon. The new Altoona reporting location and a revised shift staffing schedule will provide Penelec with greater flexibility to respond to service calls.
While reporting locations will change for some employees, no job losses are expected as part of this change.
Penelec serves about 590,000 customers in 31 Pennsylvania counties.
