GridSouth sponsors suspend implementation project and postpone regulatory filings

FORT MILL, S.C., June 18, 2002 — GridSouth sponsors Duke Energy, CP&L and South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCANA) will delay filing applications with their state commission and will suspend the GridSouth Implementation project.

Some activities will continue for a few weeks to preserve project accomplishments for use in the future.

Postponing the filings will provide the sponsors time to review the effects of regulatory initiatives that are beginning now and due for completion later this year. The postponement will also allow additional time for the sponsors to receive and consider input from stakeholders and regulators.

The companies will then determine the appropriate time to file new applications with the state commissions.

“Our three companies continue to support regional transmission organizations and the concept of a Carolinas’ RTO,” said Jim Hicks, Duke Power’s senior vice president – electric transmission and a member of the GridSouth Management Committee.
