Indiana and Alabama utilities choose Trimble UtilityCenter for GIS and asset management

Sunnyvale, Calif., September 15, 2009 – Two electric utilities have chosen Trimble UtilityCenter software as their geographic information system and asset management solution.

Trimble UtilityCenter software allows electric, gas, water and wastewater utilities to automate their workflow and business processes to increase efficiency and improve productivity.

Tipmont Rural Electric Membership Corporation (REMC) located in Linden, Indiana will be implementing Trimble’s UtilityCenter uaField module to put the utility’s GIS at field workers’ fingertips, the uaFM module to provide core GIS and asset management functionality in the office, and the uaView module to enable mobile workers to view the GIS system in the field.

Tipmont also uses Trimble GeoExplorer handheld receivers to collect GPS data and perform electrical pole inventories.

Russellville Electric Board in Alabama selected Trimble UtilityCenter as its enterprise GIS solution. Russellville will be implementing the uaField module for mobile GIS, the uaFM module to provide core GIS and asset management functionality in the office, and eReports for automated reporting that will give management a virtual dashboard of the GIS system.

The new solution will also allow the utility to distribute GIS data and interface with its Customer Information System (CIS) to support workflow for utility billing, accounting, engineering, and operations.

The Trimble UtilityCenter software provides a comprehensive suite of GIS-based workflow solutions designed to automate the daily business operations of utilities from outage management and work order tracking to updating GIS maps while in the field. The technology is scalable, cost-effective and able to meet the diverse needs of utilities.

The Trimble UtilityCenter software includes application modules for utility desktop GIS mapping, mobile GIS and field staking, asset maintenance tracking, and outage management. Through an integrated desktop, Web and mobile platform, Trimble UtilityCenter provides utility office and field employees with a complete visual solution for managing assets, customers and mobile resources.

Trimble’s UtilityCenter software is currently used by more than 100 electric, gas, water and wastewater utilities throughout the U.S.
