Kema-Powertest expands high-voltage T&D laboratory

Kema-Powertest LLC held its ground breaking to add a new test cell, number 9, at its High Voltage and High Power Test laboratory in Chalfont, Pennsylvania.

Once completed, the new high-power test cell will be the laboratory’s largest test cell in size and volume (34 feet by 30 feet by 26 feet high) and will provide a safer environment to test and certify electric power utility equipment coming into the marketplace.

The testing performed exceeds 36,000 volts (VAC) on typical transmission and distribution (T&D) equipment that include transformers, reactors, circuit breakers, fuses and power switches.

Kema-Powertest is part of DNV GL Energy’s Power TIC Division, headquartered in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Kema-Powertest is a high-power independent electrical testing laboratory providing testing services for the energy and utility industry.

Kema-Powertest provides measurements for equipment performance, testing and certification to its customers.
