Kreiss Johnson Technologies announces new VP sales

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Nov. 4, 2003 — Kreiss Johnson Technologies (KJT), a developer of utility power information management solutions, announced that Tim Shaw has joined the company as vice president of sales. Shaw will be responsible for managing KJT’s global sales efforts.

For more than 27 years, Shaw has been a business leader and innovator in the areas of substation and process automation and related technologies. Most recently Shaw managed the design and development of a new breed of vendor-independent substation automation devices that enable Internet access to real-time, event-based, and parametric data.

He was also instrumental in the development of a new family of remote terminal units (RTUs) that integrates traditional functions with emerging requirements, such as IP-based networking, LAN connectivity, security, and the ability to interface with equipment from multiple manufacturers.

Combining technology, management, and business acumen, Shaw has worn many “hats”company founder and CEO, vice president of engineering, systems engineer, project manager, and manager of marketing and product development for companies that include EMC, Texas Instruments, and most recently Qualitrol/Hathaway. Shaw has successfully introduced numerous technologies and has a proven track record in international sales expansion and negotiations.

KJT’s OPEN software system acquires, correlates, and analyzes non-operational data (complex fault, event, and disturbance data from protection, control, and power recording devices, equipment monitor data, and external data sources). OPEN then delivers the analysis results to utility teams using automated reporting mechanisms and graphics via the Internet.

In addition to his comprehensive career, Shaw has been an active participant in the IEEE and other utility organizations. He collaborated with the California ISO in the design, development, and deployment of the first X.509-compliant real-time monitoring and control system used to link statewide generating facilities. Shaw later deployed similar systems for the New England and New York ISOs.

Shaw has lectured extensively both in the U.S. and abroad on SCADA systems, substation automation, microcomputer-based distributed control systems, the Internet, communications and networking, cyber security, and operating systems. Shaw’s education includes a BS degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Michigan and an MS degree in engineering science from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland.
