Landis+Gyr announces updated power line carrier network

Atlanta, October 3, 2012 — Landis+Gyr launched Gridstream PLX, its newest generation of power line carrier (PLC) technology.

Gridstream PLX offers a large increase in data capacity over legacy PLC systems, delivering 15-minute interval data from each meter on the network and enabling utilities to view that data within 30 minutes.

PLX allows commands to be sent as data is received. The system’s increased capacity improves the performance of over-the-wire firmware upgrades and data encryption for enhanced security.

PLX builds upon Landis+Gyr’s previous PLC network offerings, and maintains trademark features such as continuous and simultaneous communication with every endpoint. This communication method provides the advantage of unsolicited outage notifications, distribution line monitoring and time-synched “snapshots” of demand or voltage levels across the entire system.

Landis+Gyr is receiving orders for PLX systems, with product scheduled to ship in February 2013.
