Michigan Electric Coordinated System’s partner companies select Excelergy Trader BackOffice for MISO transactions

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 7, 2003 — The two partner companies comprising the Michigan Electric Coordinated System (MECS)–International Transmission Company and Michigan Electric Transmission Company–have chosen to deploy the Excelergy Trader BackOfficeâ„- software platform to exchange power schedules and other standard transactions with the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO).

MECS is a control area serving approximately 4.5 million customers in the lower peninsula of Michigan.

“We’ve been searching for a packaged, off-the-shelf software platform to manage the major MISO market transactions, and Excelergy’s platform meets our needs extremely well,” said Charles Whitley, MECS assistant manager. “MECS is depending on Excelergy to deliver a rapid, successful deployment so that we will be fully prepared for the MISO market trials in November.”

MECS will deploy Excelergy Trader BackOffice with its MISO-specific connectivity module–Excelergy MISO MarketConnectTM–for the automated exchange and processing of power schedules, dispatch instructions, emergency notifications, load forecasts and other MISO transactions. MISO market trials are planned to start in November, preceding the launch of the Midwest Market scheduled for Spring 2004.

“Leading companies throughout the energy/utility value chain are continuing to capitalize on the substantial, measurable returns achieved through the rapid deployment of Excelergy’s high performance software platforms,” said Bill Mahoney, Excelergy’s president and CEO. “From generation/supply through transmission/wholesale to distribution/retail, Excelergy’s clients are managing their energy-to-cash cycles faster and more accurately than ever before.”

The MECS contract marks Excelergy’s second major new client agreement in recent weeks in the MISO market. Earlier this month, Excelergy announced it signed an agreement to deploy the full Excelergy Trader BackOffice system, including MISO MarketConnect, at Northern Indiana Public Service Company to manage NIPSCO’s scheduling, settlement and market connectivity/transaction management with MISO.
