New packaged substation handles medium to low voltage

Jan. 16, 2003 — ALSTOM has launched a new roll-in packaged transformer substation for supplying buildings or industries with electricity. The medium-voltage/low-voltage TETRIS Compact substation is compact and fully factory-tested to IEC standards.

The substation includes a distribution transformer, medium- and low-voltage switchgear and accompanying electrical protection equipment and is mounted on wheels for easy transport and fast installation. It transforms voltage from the incoming supply down to 410V/230V, depending on requirements.

The substation has a compartment underneath the unit which ensures that no oil escapes should there be a leak in the transformer. This compartment is also used to cool exhaust gases in the rare case of internal arcing, thus considerably enhancing the safety of people in the vicinity.

The substation can be fitted with components chosen from a large range of medium- and low-voltage equipment. It is pre-tested in the factory and is delivered to site ready to be used.

The substation is designed to cut down on installation time, minimise the space required for electrical connection to the grid and provide a safe, high-quality and effective all-in-one product for small industry/commercial buildings.

Rene Ricard, Senior Vice President of the Medium Voltage business within ALSTOM’s Transmission & Distribution Sector, said: “TETRIS Compact is a high-quality solution, designed to the highest environmental and safety standards, backed by the guarantee of ALSTOM service and quality. It offers a quick and attractive alternative to time-consuming installation of equipment on site.”
