HUNTSVILLE, Ala., July 12, 2002 — Niagara Falls Hydro has signed a contract to replace its legacy GIS with an advanced geofacilities management system from the Utilities & Communications division of Intergraph Corp.
Located in Ontario, Canada, the company distributes electricity to approximately 33,000 customers over an 80 square mile area. The new system, based on Intergraph’s G/Electric solution, will integrate Niagara Falls Hydro’s existing computer-based and manual systems that manage and maintain the company’s electric distribution network.
The initial implementation is expected to show noticeable benefits and timesavings by reducing redundant processes and enabling more efficient capture, design, and analysis of network asset information.
According to Niagara Falls Hydro’s John Compostella, director of Engineering and Operations, “We selected a replacement GIS that will streamline our operational workflow and satisfy future information demands. We also wanted one company to be accountable and responsible for the new integrated environment. Intergraph’s turnkey system will provide a data warehouse and common repository for all asset information required to support planning, estimating, work management, and engineering network analysis.”
The project includes interfacing to Niagara Falls Hydro’s Customer Information System (CIS) and work-estimating systems and will allow office personnel, and eventually field personnel, to access and view current asset-related data.
Intergraph Canada’s National Director of Utilities & Communications, Bob Hopkins, commented, “We’ve had a long tradition of implementing successful geofacilities management systems in this part of Canada and are delighted that Niagara Falls Hydro has joined with many neighboring municipal utilities in selecting Intergraph as its solution partner.”
