Orlando Utilities Commission taps Elster to complete AMI

Elster Solutions announced the Orlando Utilities Commission, a municipal utility owned by the citizens of Orlando, Fla., that serves nearly 225,000 customers with electric and water services, has selected Elster’s EnergyAxis to complete its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system.

EnergyAxis provides two-way communication for electric, water and gas meters.

The project will help OUC complete its conversion to a completely digital meter network and lay the foundation for providing a website that allows OUC customers to better monitor their consumption.

The recent deployment of the EnergyAxis management system enables OUC to enhance its outage management and distribution grid monitoring and control.

The new system also will enable OUC to support new rate structures for customers in the future, including pre-pay and eventually time-of-use programs, as well as a web portal that provides customers with detailed consumption information.
