PECO is working to restore power to thousands of customers impacted by the February 5 winter storm, which brought a mix of snow, ice and freezing rain to the region. The storm caused extensive damage to trees, tree limbs and electrical equipment, and already has become the second most damaging storm in PECO history.
As of 12:30 p.m., February 5, more than 623,000 customers remain without electric service. Specifically, 187,865 in Montgomery County, 181,212 in Chester County, 143,632 in Bucks County, 73,146 in Delaware County, 33,004 in Philadelphia County and 4,361 in York County.
More than 3,000 personnel, including 1,500 field employees, are working to restore service to customers and will continue to work around the clock to make repairs. PECO’s emergency response organization is activated and every PECO employee is focused on outage restoration activities.
With damage still occurring, it is too early to determine when service will be restored to all customers. Based on the conditions and damages so far, PECO said it would be able to restore service to most customers in the next few days. However, some customers in more heavily damaged areas could be without service into the weekend.
Based in Philadelphia, PECO is an electric and natural gas utility unit of Exelon Corp. PECO serves 1.6 million electric customers in southeastern Pennsylvania and employs about 2,400 people in the region. PECO delivered 37.5 billion kWh of electricity in 2012.
