Quanta to enhance Arizona transmission system as part of $250 million project

HOUSTON, Nov. 1, 2001 – Quanta Services announced that its subsidiary, PAR Electrical Contractors, has established a six-year Strategic Business Affiliation (SBA) agreement with Arizona Public Service (APS) worth approximately $250 million.

Under the SBA agreement, PAR, supported by other Quanta companies, will aid in the design, build-out and maintenance of APS’s electrical transmission systems including substations, generation interconnections and transmission lines.

In response to increasing power generation and customer growth, APS has an implementation strategy to meet the growing demand for power in the Southwest. The company set out to secure a partner with the safety processes, a skilled workforce, specialty equipment and financial qualifications required to handle a large volume of projects of various size and scope.

“With load capacity continuing to increase and at least twenty new power plants in the construction or planning stages in Arizona alone, we must develop new transmission systems to ensure power delivery to Arizona and the Southwest region,” said Bill Hanna, APS Manager of Transmission Construction. “Based on our assessments, Quanta measured up to our rigorous requirements and has the workforce to execute the required transmission installation.”

The SBA agreement applies to more than 250 miles of transmission line, ranging from 115-kV to 500-kV, and an assortment of substation projects. The Quanta team also will provide emergency response and equipment for electrical transmission and fiber optic or copper communication systems, as needed.

APS, Arizona’s largest and longest-serving electric utility, serves more than 857,000 customers in 11 of the state’s 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the largest subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp.

Quanta Services, Inc. is a provider of specialized contracting services, delivering end-to-end network solutions for electric power, telecommunications and cable television.
