Soluziona USA chosen by PSE&G to help with substation condition assessment

MEDIA, Pa., Oct. 30, 2002 — Soluziona USA, an IT consulting and specialized software solutions provider and North American arm of Soluziona, announced that it has been working with Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) of New Jersey assisting the utility in developing new processes and systems to improve the effectiveness of substation maintenance and capital replacement programs.

Soluziona USA was specifically chosen to help PSE&G reduce their overall maintenance costs and be more proactive in managing their transmission and distribution assets, leveraging their existing technology products.

Soluziona USA, a systems integrator and consulting organization, has been providing technology solutions to the energy industry since 1988, and possessed the utility business process experience to work effectively with various technologies and software products, such as SAP and OSI Soft, on this project.

“We are happy to be part of this project, PSE&G is a long time client of ours and we were pleased to bring our experience to the table for them”, commented Greg Muller, VP Energy at Soluziona USA. “PSE&G’s goal is to realize reductions in the overall cost of substation maintenance by shifting from calendar-based maintenance to condition-based maintenance. Also, through equipment condition assessment, PSE&G seeks to be able to identify and address problems before they cause equipment failures, while saving costs related to T&D maintenance engineering and management.”

Electrical substations are the critical junction points in electrical utilities’ transmission and distribution grids. They contain large and expensive assets that direct, monitor and control the flow of electricity. By catching potential equipment failures before they occur, through condition assessment, utilities improve equipment reliability and uninterrupted delivery of power to their customers.

Utilities across the country are now shifting more towards condition-based maintenance programs instead of relying on calendar-based maintenance that dictates the servicing, overhaul, or replacement of equipment that may be in good health, while not catching equipment that may be on the verge of failure.

Inspection and maintenance of substation equipment represent major expenses for utilities and offer large opportunities for savings. Condition assessment provides an effective tool for reducing maintenance costs and improving T&D asset health.

Soluziona USA, through its global organization, is harnessing their vast experience in a recently launched branded offering to capitalize on the move away from calendar-based maintenance. Soluziona USA’s offering, PREvENTà¢â€ž-, includes condition-based maintenance, in addition to other value-added components to assist companies with total asset management.
