Southern to focus on regulated utility businesses

HOUSTON, May 23, 2001—Allen Franklin, CEO of Southern Co., said the company would focus on its regulated retail businesses in the Southeast to become a “super-regional” energy company.

AUSTIN, Texas, May 23, 2001 — The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and American Electric Power have announced a joint development agreement that will improve the capacity and reliability of electric transmission systems in South and West Texas.
