Tampa Electric wins safety award

For the second quarter in a row, the Southeastern Electric Exchange (SEE) recognized Tampa Electric for its safety performance. The company achieved the lowest incidence rate among all participating electric utilities in the southeast in the first quarter of this year, and maintained that ranking through the second quarter. This is the first time in company history Tampa Electric has won a first place ranking.

In 2012, TECO Energy saw its best safety performance in the more than 118 years TECO Energy companies have served Florida communities.

The SEE, a non-profit, non-political trade association of investor-owned electric utilities, listed Tampa Electric in the top quartile of its peers with respect to power generation and transmission and distribution operations. Overall, the company had the second-lowest incidence rate among the 17 companies participating in the 2012 data comparison.

Tampa Electric Co. is a unit of TECO Energy Inc. (TE), an energy-related holding company with regulated utility operations in Florida. Tampa Electric serves more than 687,000 customers in west-central Florida.
