Vegetation Management for Cooperatives

ACRT

Arborcision-offered exclusively through ACRT to help cooperatives identify and prioritize workloads, analyze costs, enhance system management, improve reliability, manage risk and make more effective decisions-is a secure, Software as a Service (SaaS) management tool that combines real-life circuit samplings and algorithms to give cooperatives powerful insights into their vegetation management programs. The system is updated regularly and has been tested thoroughly in real-life scenarios to ensure maximum functionality and benefit to users. The data provided through this SaaS can serve as a significant cost driver to improving vegetation management. Arborcision requires little upfront work from cooperatives. ACRT’s expert foresters collect a majority of the data in the field and then analyze it to build a comprehensive system management plan.

Partnership to Improve Operations

ILS Technology

ILS Technology, a Telit company, and SAP are integrating the deviceWISE m2M Application Enablement Platform (AEP) with the SAP HANA platform, helping organizations improve operations of their devices and machines. The integration with SAP HANA is expected to help enable new intelligence by converging applications with real-time machine-to-machine (m2M) data and Internet of Things (IoT) data from deviceWISE designed to help transform transactions, analytics, text analysis, predictive and spatial processing. Managing business in a more connected world requires the ability to adjust in real time to a limitless number of decisions based on millions of live signals from devices and machines. Real-time m2M data analytics helps provide innovative consumer insights that can enable preventive and efficient business practices by detecting, analyzing and automating business processes around the data from the IoT across industries and markets.

Hot Socket Gap Indicator

Tesco

Tesco has developed a new tool to help you determine if a meter socket has become worn-out and unsafe for continued use. The Tesco Hot Socket Gap Indicator (Catalog No. 300) is quick, easy-to-use and has a rugged, nonconductive ABS insulated shell. The tool engages the jaws of a meter socket and will indicate a gap or significant loss of jaw pre-load. Total estimated time of testing four jaws is less than 30 seconds. Even minor gaps can result in electrical arcing, resulting with a more serious problem, failure or electrical fire.

Overhead Conductor

Southwire

Utilities looking for greater flexibility, reliability and single-failure tolerance for critical transmission lines have an affordable carbon-fiber option in the new Southwire C7 Overhead Conductor. The multistranded composite core that uses advanced polymers, resins and thermoplastics from Celanese delivers increased performance and a service life in excess of 40 years. Southwire has been developing the C7 Overhead Conductor for seven years, creating a transmission conductor with nearly double the capacity and less sag than the same diameter ACSR. The new overhead conductor has a stranded continuous carbon-fiber thermoplastic composite core for rugged flexibility and reliability. The carbon fibers are embedded in a heat-resistant Fortron PPS polymer matrix and capped with a layer of high-performance PEEK. The design allows for minimum sag at higher power transfer, and the stranded core means there is no single point of failure for the overhead conductor.

Mobile App for Catalog

Electric utility customers can get full access to the Southwire Utility Product Catalog on mobile devices with the release of the latest Southwire mobile app. Southwire’s Utility Wire Catalog App provides easy viewing of utility conductor and cable product information such as applications, specifications, construction and data for each product in the extensive line. The app is available in the App Store for use on Apple products and features an easy-to-navigate diagram so the user can select products based on where they are used in the utility system. The mobile app allows users to browse the complete catalog, search for products based on use and scan a product barcode in the field to access the technical specs on the conductor. The app also enables the user to compare products, save jobs for future reference and export product information that can be transmitted and shared easily. Southwire has a suite of 16 mobile apps that serve the utility industry and electrical contractors. The free apps have been downloaded more than 175,000 times.

Enhancing Automation Network Efficiency

Belden Inc.

Belden Inc. has extended its Hirschmann product program to include the new HiOS operating system release 3.0. HiOS 3.0 is available for Rail Switch Power (RSP), Rail Switch Power Lite (RSPL), Rail Switch Power Smart (RSPS) and Embedded Ethernet Switch (EES) families of switches plus modular MICE Switch Power (MSP) systems. New functions include support for the Multiple MAC Registration Protocol (MMRP), which runs on top of the Security Layer and registers group MAC addresses (e.g. for Multicast) on multiple switches. In the energy sector, an IEC 61850 server can be used to transfer diagnostic information directly, for example, to control systems. This means that applications such as protection devices can use Hirschmann switches as integral components.

Ladder Racks

Prime Design

Prime Design, a Safe Fleet Brand, announces availability of more than 30 ladder rack models to fit the seven new RAM ProMaster configurations. The aluminum ladder racks can accommodate a 6-foot step ladder, a 40-foot extension ladder and anything in between. The ladder racks optimize ergonomics through leverage, positioning and smooth, hydraulic assistance. This combination eliminates operators from having to climb on a tire or bumper-actions that can lead to an accident and recordable injuries.
