SANTA ANA, Calif., March 26, 2003 — Wahlco Inc., a supplier of air pollution control systems, today announced the award of two contracts totaling more than $4 million. Both projects, designed to meet EPA requirements for reduced toxic emissions, are for electric power generating facilities.
The first involves a complete line of air pollution control systems for a New Hampshire pulp and paper company that generates its own electricity by burning a by-product of their paper production process.
In addition to back-end clean up of ash particulate and reduction of NOx and SO2 emissions, the package also includes the patented U2Aâ„- system. Designed to convert urea into ammonia, as needed at the power-generating site, this process eliminates the serious risk of handling and storing feedstock ammonia. Developed by EC&C Technologies, Wahlco shares the exclusive license to supply U2Aâ„- systems worldwide with alliance partner Hamon Research-Cottrell.
The second contract, with a major electric power utility located in New Jersey, is for aqueous ammonia systems to be installed on two 330-megawatt boilers. These systems will deliver ammonia, the reagent used in reducing NOx emissions, to each of the unit’s in-duct SCR (selective catalytic reduction) systems.
In making this announcement, Wahlco President, James Clark stated: “In spite of ever-increasing energy production, our technology is staying ahead and winning the race against air pollution. We are proud to be a part of that success. However, ultimately, it’s not our success, but the long-term health of the environment that is the true measure of progress.”
Wahlco installations of air pollution control systems serve more than 190,000 megawatts of generating power worldwide.
Founded in 1972, Wahlco designs and manufactures air pollution control systems including flue gas conditioning equipment, anhydrous and aqueous ammonia systems, and urea to ammonia (U2Aâ„-) conversion systems for energy utilities, refineries and industrial clients. Wahlco also manufactures immersion and air duct heaters plus thermocouple probes for custom applications.
Wahlco (formerly Wahlco Environmental Systems) is privately held and was purchased by members of the management team in partnership with industry professionals in January of 2001. Located in Santa Ana, Wahlco is not affiliated with Wahlco Engineered Products Inc. or Wahlco Metroflex.
