Philadelphia, October 31, 2011 — Ranking as the worst October storm in PECO history, yesterday’s wintery mix brought wet snow and strong winds that damaged trees and electrical equipment interrupting electric service to more than 250,000 PECO customers.
During the first 12 hours of response — while stormy conditions continued to cause power outages — PECO crews have restored service to more than 100,000 customers.
The more than 12 hours of wintry weather caused widespread damage, especially in Buck, Chester and Montgomery counties. Currently more than 150,000 customers are without service.
Specifically: 63,000 customers in Bucks County, 57,000 customers in Chester County, 1,100 customers in Delaware County, 30,000 customers in Montgomery County and 400 customers in Philadelphia County.
Because of the extent of damage, PECO expects some customers to be without service throughout the weekend.
All available employees and contractors will continue to work around the clock until service can be restored to all customers.
Customers are reminded to stay away from damaged electric equipment, fallen trees and downed power lines. Always assume equipment is energized, even if there is a power outage in your neighborhood.
